The reality of this journey slaps me in the face occasionally. Periodically, I get to take a step back to appreciate the progress we’ve made to this point. We are seeing very exciting movement in two specific areas – the acquisition of office space and the addition of a second full-time employee.
With the help of board member Meghan Walters, we are now negotiating with a couple brokers to secure office space for our growing staff. It’s an exciting time for the organization. An organization that has lived in a library and a basement apartment will soon enjoy the legitimacy of a true office.
As noted, that office will hold two full-time employees. So, who will that second employee be? Well, we don’t know yet. But, we do know that he or she will add great value to the organization. Without spending a dime on recruiting, we received 52 resumes for consideration. The quality was extraordinarily high, and I am enjoying the process of interviewing 10 semi-finalists (There are a number of people I would feel comfortable hiring, and you will hear more about our finalist interview process in Thursday’s blog).
In addition to these exciting steps, we’re in the process of recruiting two part-time Site Directors to facilitate our programming at Perry Street Prep and Eastern Senior High (Do you know anyone who’d be interested in a 10 hour/week after-school job?).
Lastly – and most exciting – I visited Eastern today to begin recruitment efforts. During an extra-curricular fair in the school cafeteria, we met many potential Reach tutors. Those students who showed interest today may become the next DaJohn, Joyce, Chynna, or Brandon. They don’t yet know how their lives are about to change, but I’m excited to see this year’s stories unfold.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
