Reach Incorporated uses an innovative, three-pronged model:
Training: Two days each week, teachers guide our tutors in preparing lesson plans grounded in the core components of literacy development.
Tutoring: On two alternating days, our tutors provide reading instruction to elementary school students in need of support.
Compensation: Our tutors are paid for program participation.
We’re getting results.
Reach is currently serving more than 90 students at two DC program sites.
100% of partner teachers have reported that Reach participants experience significant growth in reading fluency and comprehension.
Tutors have demonstrated GPA increases between 20% and 125%.
Though 50% of minority students in DC drop out of school – and half of those dropouts occur in 9th grade – 100% of Reach’s tutors and former tutors remain in school today.
