Deputy Director for Programs

FLSA Status: Exempt

Mission: Reach Incorporated develops grade-level readers and capable leaders by preparing teens to serve as tutors and role models for younger students, resulting in improved literacy outcomes for both the tutors and their students.

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Deputy Director for Programs will lead program-related efforts, including after-school, summer, college and career, children’s books, and alumni support. The Deputy Director of Programs will be responsible for program staff management, the assessment and improvement of programs, the management of program partnerships, and management of The Reach Fellowship.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

Program Assessment, Improvement & Strategy (40%)

 

  • Manage an organization-wide performance management system.

  • Develop and implement strategies to encourage multi-year participant engagement across multiple Reach programs.

  • Manage systems to assess, improve, and assure program quality.

  • Contribute to the creation of Reach’s unique, propriety curriculum, ensuring its alignment with district standards, inclusion of specific leadership competencies, and integration of Reach’s teen-authored books.

Staff Supervision (25%)

  • Supervise and support members of Reach’s program team. This includes the management of all direct reports as well as the maintenance of a strong team culture supportive of all team members.

  • Guide the program team in setting and achieving goals related to retention, reading growth, leadership growth, and other agreed-upon metrics demonstrating organizational effectiveness.

  • Identify professional development needs of all direct reports and support their professional growth efforts in line with the organization’s mission.

  • Manage, on an ongoing basis, individual, team, and project work plans, including oversight for specific outcomes, deliverables, and due dates.

 

 

School Partnerships (25%)

 

  • Ensure communications with all program partners through quarterly newsletters and other appropriate means.

  • Ensure that Reach remains in compliance with all requirements related to programming and building use, including, but not limited to, the completion of partnership agreements, building use agreements, background checks, and insurance requirements.

  • Engage and communicate with teachers and school leaders to secure their support of the program and participating students.

  • Identify, cultivate, and recruit new program partners.

Leadership & Learning (10%)

  • Create and execute on a personalized development plan.

  • Design and/or deliver on other projects, as needed.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Research, develop, plan, present, and promote projects; work independently; prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to manage budget and personnel.

  • Ability to develop and implement policy and procedures.

  • Ability to develop long-term objectives and short-term goals for teams and team members.

  • Ability to provide leadership and supervise planning, development, and establishment of new, modified, or improved programs.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five years of experience in youth development, nonprofit administration, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to concentrate

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently

  • Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds

  • Ability to travel to various program sites across the city, either by driving or using public transportation.

 

 

Salary and Benefits

$80,000 - $90,000, based on experience. Reach also offers a generous benefits package that includes four weeks of annual paid vacation, paid sick leave, 100% health coverage for an individual with 70% support for dependents, a 5% match of 403b contributions starting after six months of employment, a professional development fund starting at $1,000/year, and more.
