Without proper guidance, preparing for life after high school can seem like another overwhelming obstacle. Our two-year program pairs high school juniors with experienced mentors to help them navigate life after graduation. With individualized instruction and guidance, the program gives teens the support they need from admissions to financial aid.
Over the past two years, Reach has awarded 17 scholarships totaling $47,000. Not only are we helping teens achieve their goal of higher education, but we also assist their transition into career paths post-college. All the while, we’re building an alumni network to guide future students in the program.
College Spotlight: JaShawn
Last spring, as part of the College Mentorship Program, JaShawn spent a weekend touring four colleges in North Carolina. A few weeks later, he headed to Richmond to receive EAB’s Think Big Scholarship, which awards $10,000 to one high school student each year. Now a senior at Ballou High School, JaShawn continues to plan for life after graduation. While he’s still deciding where he wants to apply, he’s looking for a school with a state-of-the-art chemistry lab and a top-notch baseball team. In the meantime, JaShawn is getting a taste of college by taking a class at American University’s School of Education through the DCPS dual enrollment program.
